Kid’s Cottage Daycare
Hi, my name is Deborah. I run a licensed daycare in a new family neighbourhood in central Sooke. I began working in this field when I started my own family in 1999. Though my own children are no longer in need of care, I have continued along this path as I love what I do. We are a very active daycare and involved in many activities. Our mornings most always include an outing. We attend various playgroups and programs such as CASA drop-in, Strong Start, Kindergym, Books For Breakfast, and music programs. On other mornings you’ll find us out and about, at local parks, playgrounds, ball fields, beaches, gardens, walking, and more. We go everywhere and experience a variety of fun and adventure. Through our play we nurture our creative and imaginative selves. At home the children participate in numerous activities which support their learning and developmental growth. And yes, we do have down time too.
Many children will attend full-time daycare between the ages of 1 and 4.5 years. My aim is to develop a partnership of caring focused on your child. I believe you cannot underestimate the value of a family environment where the care provider remains the same. This type of care allows for strong bonds to be formed. In addition to this, there are often close friendships formed between the young peers, siblings, and families. A child will feel truly secure in this type of care, allowing them to focus their energy on the business of growing up well, and having some fun on the way.
I currently have two children starting kindergarten in September, and therefore, have two spaces available. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact me at 250-920-9334.

Melissa Lorenzo
My name is Melissa Lorenzo and as I begin to transition from working outside the home to within, I find myself very excited about the prospect of having two children join my daytime family come September 2014. The field of childcare is not new to me as I am a certified Early Childcare Educator with seven years experience in a large childcare centre in Victoria BC. Within that centre I had the pleasure of working for 3 years in the infant/toddler room, (2 years as a special needs aid and 1 year as a group educator). I also enjoyed a few years with the 2.5-5 age group as a group educator as well as a couple of summers helping to run the HI-5 program (a program designed specifically for children beginning kindergarten in September).
During my time working at the childcare centre, I was thrilled to welcome my own two, fabulous boys. My sons are Kobe, who is 5 and in kindergarten now, and Cooper who is 14 months old. Over the last several months, while on maternity leave with Cooper, my partner (of sixteen years) Ben and I bought a house off Happy Valley Road in Langford and have decided that it makes more sense for the logistics of our family to welcome children into our home than for me to work outside of it. Although I will miss all the families I met and friends I made during my time at the centre, I am also very excited to take all that I learned about the field of childcare there and apply it to the business of caring for children from within my own home. This arrangement is not only something I have always envisioned and have hoped to do, but it will also allow me the opportunity to run a fun and safe childcare program while still being able to drop off and pick up my son Kobe from school and to care for my young son Cooper.
I am looking to follow the Sooke School District’s (62) calendar as closely as possible which means closed for Christmas break (2 weeks), Spring break (1 week) and 2 weeks during the Summer break as well as all statutory holidays. My home will be open Monday through Friday for two fulltime spots, with hours to be discussed with families as per all our needs. I am hoping to care for two children who are relatively close to Cooper’s age (17 months in September).
I am looking forward to creating a safe childcare space that incorporates my philosophy of early childhood education. I believe that children have the greatest opportunity to grow in a loving, respectful environment that strives to be fulfilling, enriching and supportive of all learning and growing opportunities. I plan to not only care for the daily needs of your child’s physical health and safety but also to fulfill, enrich and support their learning and growth through age-appropriate play and discovery. I have begun to prepare the space in our home to welcome two new members to our daytime family and am having so much fun collecting various materials and toys that will allow me to apply my over 7 years of early childhood care experience to activities run within my own home.
If you are interested in more information and/or in having a conversation regarding the possibility of placing your child / children with me, please contact me at lissylorenzo@hotmail.com. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and also have a contract available which contains more information regarding my policies etc. I have references available upon request. Have a great day.

Tara Seguin
Tara’s Daycare is located in the Sunriver neighbourhood of Sooke. We are geared toward babies and toddlers, but accept all ages of children.
Our focus is on a fun and gentle routine with plenty of outside time, books, games, building, and crafts (our crafts mostly consist of drawing and making/sculpting homemade playdough, but sometimes there is something fun to bring home to the family!) Meals and snacks are included for your convenience.
Our family currently has two school-aged children, a toddler, and a small feisty poodle-terrier who is our very special and kid-friendly ‘grown-up alarm’.
I have operated a family daycare out of my home near Vancouver for the last five years, have current childcare first-aid certification, the Good Beginnings family daycare course, and am pursuing registration as a Registered License-Not-Required Family Daycare in Sooke.
Please feel free to contact me for a visit, and see if our daycare is right for your family!
Please note: For teachers and other school-year employees, I am able to offer daycare annually for the school year, with no summer holding fee.
