Thursday, August 1

  • If You’re a Pirate and You Know it, Say “Arghhh!” storytime at the library, 10:30 to 11:15 AM. Join Dave’s band of pirates as they seize the library for a high seas adventure! Enjoy pirate stories, crafts and even a song or two. For ages 6-9 years; registration required.
  • SEAPARC Toonie Swim, 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Children under 4 are free.
  • Sooke Breastfeeding Support meeting, 1:00 to 2:30 PM at CASA (2145 Townsend Road). Whether you have questions or want to help others with breastfeeding, or are pregnant or just interested, come talk about anything you want to talk about to do with breastfeeding! Kids welcome; toys provided. Good breastfeeding (and parenting) books available to borrow, too. Contact Allie for details (allie@sookefamilies.com)

Tuesday, August 6

  • SEAPARC (6th-9th, 1:00 to 3:30 PM): Shipwrecked! Batten down the hatches … the pirates have arrived and are taking over the pool for a week of havoc and games. Walk the plank or try our barrel roll … argggg!
  • Baby Talk (for ages 0 – 12 months) through VIHA at the CASA building, 10:00 to 11:30. Topic: Breastfeeding.
  • Youth Clinic at West Coast Family Medical Clinic, 4:00 to 6:30 PM.

Wednesday, August 7

  • SFRS Parent Discussion group, 9:30 to 11:00. Topic: Water Play Day (dress appropriately!).
  • Drop-in craft time at the library, 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All ages welcome.

Thursday, August 8

  • Prepare For Takeoff! storytime at the library, 10:30 to 11:15 AM. If you love planes, spaceships and rockets, this storytime is for you! Enjoy an adventure that will take your imagination to new heights. Plus, you’ll take home a craft that can really fly! For approximately ages 3-5 years; registration required.
  • SFRS Young Parents’ Discussion Group at CASA, 11:00 to 1:30. Water Play Day (dress appropriately!).
  • SEAPARC Toonie Swim, 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Children under 4 are free.

You’ll just have to come and see for yourself … this week we will be hunting for treasure, and hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to take some home with you!
  • SFRS Parent and Baby/Toddler Drop-in (0 – 24 months old) at CASA, 9:30 to 11:00 AM.

Tuesday, August 13

  • Baby Talk (for ages 0 – 12 months) through VIHA at the CASA building, 10:00 to 11:30. Topic: Infant Massage.
  • Summer Reading Club Wrap-Up Party at SEAPARC, 11:00 AM-12:30 PM. Join the library staff at SEAPARC for a party for the whole family! Gemini Award-Winning Puppeteer Tim Gosley performs “The Ugly Duckling.” Everyone welcome; for more information or to register call 250-642-3022.

Monday, August 19

  • SEAPARC (19th-23rd, 1:00 to 3:30 PM): Gamesapalooza. Face paints and team chants! A giant game of Capture the Flag in the pool! Get fired up for a swim with all your favourite pool games. Ultimate tube tag in the shallow end, and try your luck with diving board basketball!
  • SFRS Parent and Preschooler Drop-in (2 – 6 years old) at CASA, 9:30 to 11:00 AM.

Tuesday, August 20

  • SFRS Parent Discussion group, 9:30 to 11:00. Topic: Boardwalk and Bubbles. Meet at the outdoor gazebo at CASA and the group will walk to Ed Macgregor Park.
  • Drop-in craft time at the library, 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All ages welcome.

Thursday, August 22

  • SFRS Young Parents’ Discussion Group, 11:00 to 1:30. Boardwalk and Bubbles (see yesterday).
  • SEAPARC Toonie Swim, 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Children under 4 are free.

  • Vancouver Island Art Fest at Sooke River Campground.
  • Sooke Country Market, on Otter Point Road at Eustace, 10 AM to 2 PM.
  • Sooke Fire Rescue Service 100th anniversary parade. 10:30, parade begins at SEAPARC and goes to John Phillips Memorial Park (2201 Otter Point Road). Foor concessions, inflatable games, and kids’ activities, emergency vehicles on display.
  • Bountiful Berries guided walk, Aylard Farm, 1:00 to 2:30 PM, ages 5 and up. Join a CRD Regional Parks’ naturalist on a walk to explore for blackberries, Oregon grape berries, salal berries and more. There will also be an opportunity to taste jams made from some of these natural delights. Meet at the kiosk in the Aylard Farm parking lot off Becher Bay Road.

  • SEAPARC (26th-30th, 1:00 to 3:30 PM): Best of the Best. The end of summer is near but that’s no reason to be blue. SEAPARC will end the summer with a bang! Fun and games galore, slip’n’sliding, water balloon toss and picnic games are not to be missed!
