Monday, July 1

  • Canada Day in Sooke! Noon to 11 PM. Free for all ages. Fireworks at dusk. Alcohol-free event. At the Sooke flats.
  • SFRS closed.

Tuesday, July 2

  • SEAPARC: Pool Into the Wild! This week’s theme is based on surviving in the wild! We will build rafts and practice survival swimming skills.
  • Baby Talk (for ages 0 – 12 months) through VIHA at the CASA building, 10:00 to 11:30. Topic: Will I Ever Sleep Again?
  • Youth Clinic at West Coast Family Medical Clinic, 4:00 to 6:30 PM.

Wednesday, July 3

  • Painting with Picasso 3-day art camp begins, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Contact SEAPARC for details.
  • SFRS Parent Discussion group, 9:30 to 11:00. Topic: Holiday Planning Tips.
  • Drop-in craft time at the library, 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All ages welcome.

Thursday, July 4

  • SEAPARC Toonie Swim, 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Children under 4 are free.
  • Sooke Breastfeeding Support meeting, 1:00 to 2:30 PM at CASA (2145 Townsend Road). This meeting will include a babywearing demo with an expert mom and a chiropractor (lots of wraps and slings to try out!). Whether you have questions or want to help others with breastfeeding, or are pregnant or just interested, come talk about anything you want to talk about to do with breastfeeding!   • SFRS Parent Discussion group, 9:30 to 11:00. Walk on the Goose. Meet at the parking lot on Sooke River Road across from Sherwood Park Estates Mobile Home Park.

Thursday, July 11

  • SFRS Young Parents’ Discussion Group, 11:00 to 1:30. Beach Day – meet at Aylard Farm in East Sooke.
  • Extreme Science Fun at the library, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Join us as we kick off our Summer Reading Club with an Extreme Science Show! Join the Science Venture Big Kids for an hour of amazing science fun! Enjoy chemical reactions, electrifying demos, and bubbling fun. Now that’s science! Friday, July 12

  • Sooke Starlight Cinema at Ed McGregor Park. 9:00 PM. Concession available. Film: The Croods, a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world’s first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed. Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures — and their outlook is changed forever.

Saturday, July 13

  • Sooke Country Market, on Otter Point Road at Eustace, 10 AM to 2 PM.
  • SK8/BMX JAM through SEAPARC! At the Skate Park on Throupe Road. Registration begins at 11:00 AM. Event from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Open competition with opportunities to be judged on skateboarding and BMX techniques. Helmets required. Up to 18 years old.

Sunday, July 14

  • Annual Pops in the Park Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra Concert at Ed McGregor Park, 2:30 PM. Gates open at 1:00. Conductor: Christopher Taber. Special Guests: Sooke Pipes & Drums and featured soloists. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Enjoy fine fare from food vendors or bring your own picnic.

Monday, July 15

  • SFRS Parent and Preschooler Drop-in (2 – 6 years old) at CASA, 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
  • SEAPARC: This week’s theme is Pool Explorers. Venture to SEAPARC and take a wade through the pool. Find the hidden map and the secret destinations by following all the clues. Lots of surprises along the way!

Tuesday, July 16

  • Baby Talk (for ages 0 – 12 months) through VIHA at the CASA building, 10:00 to 11:30. Topic: Your Changing Family: Relationships After Baby.
  • Butterflies and Ladybugs: A Storytime That Will Take You Away at the library, 10:30 to 11:15 AM. Dress up as your favourite flying critter for a special storytime filled with stories, songs, crafts, and lots of fun! For approximately ages 3-5 years; registration required.
  • Youth Clinic at West Coast Family Medical Clinic, 4:00 to 6:30 PM.

Thursday, July 18

  • Upcycle! Clever and Creative Ways to Reuse Your Old “Stuff” at the library, 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Turn old ties, toys and other trash into new treasures in this hands-on workshop. Learn how to use your imagination to remake, restyle and recycle everyday items. For ages 6 and up; registration required.
  • SEAPARC Toonie Swim, 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Children under 4 are free.

  • Sooke Country Market, on Otter Point Road at Eustace, 10 AM to 2 PM.
  • Bike Ride Back in Time, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM: Cycle back in time with CRD Regional Parks’ naturalists along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail from Sooke Potholes to the northern terminus of Kapoor Regional Park. Explore the historic area of Leechtown and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of this wilderness area. Bring your own bicycle, lunch, water and snacks.  There is no fee for this program but you must pre-register as space is limited. To reserve a spot call 250.478.3344 by July 19. Ages 16 and up.

  • Whelks to Whales, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM: Pristine ocean wilderness offers much to be explored. Join a CRD Regional Parks’ naturalist to discover more about ocean dwellers near and deep.  Meet at the kiosk in the Aylard Farm parking lot off Becher Bay Road. All ages.
  • Drop-in craft time at the library, 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All ages welcome.
